Gentlemen, without the ability to disguise a style error with the correct lipstick, what clothes and accessories you wear and how you wear them are actually much more important questions for you than the ladies !   It is critical when buying glasses as the range of styles, colours, prices and possibility for error is HUGE. Glasses Richard Gere silver

Your glasses have just as much impact on your outfit as any other accessory, and as they are so prominently placed, it's vital to get them right.  It's also important to consider the occasion you're wearing them for, as you may need more than one pair (any excuse for a bit of shopping plus, at least in France, many opticians offer 2 for the price of 1 so you may as try to choose 2 different, but perfect choices !)

I have worn glasses since I was 15 but it wasn’t until I worked in Hong Kong (and contact lenses stopped working for me) that I chose 2 very distinct pairs of ‘look at me’ glasses frames; purple lozenge - shaped frames and tortoiseshell very angular frames. They blended well with my personality, work status, face shape and (at that time) colouring.  I can’t wear tortoiseshell anymore because in 20 years my hair colouring has changed and that colour is no longer in my palette and then after a few years in France I chose to stop using them as my ‘invisible barrier to people seeing me’…

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

Your Colour Category The frames of your glasses should complement your skin tone and work with the colour palette of the rest of your wardrobe.

Do you know whether you have a warm or a cool skin tone ?  If you do this will help you choose between the browns, blacks, tortoiseshell, silvers and golds or no frame at all.  Choosing an amazing colour from the huge range of possibilities is easy as the same guidelines apply here as to your clothes.

For example, if you have dark brown hair, brown eyes and sport a healthy tan most of the year, silver frames would not be your best option…

If you are choosing coloured lenses, the same Warm vs Cool question needs to be asked.

Your Style Personality The way you dress is an expression of who you are, so you want to make sure your glasses portray the right image. Part of the Men's Image consultation is a Style questionnaire.  It will help you discover what your Style Personality is and how to dress to reflect this, both in the workplace and in your home life.

Your Face Shape and Proportions To keep your look in balance you should wear frames that are opposite in shape to your face...

ROUND FACE = ANGULAR GLASSES Square or rectangular frames that are slightly wider than your face will make your face seem smaller.

Glasses muted colours

SQUARE FACE = ROUND GLASSES Lightweight oval or rounded styles will suit you well.

OVAL FACE = ANY SHAPED GLASSES For those of you lucky enough to have an oval face shape, most shapes and styles will suit you so choose whatever takes your fancy, just ensure they work with your colouring and style personality.
